Trial Avionics Panel

Well, the test brackets and avionics panel came in!

The brackets look swell. Very happy. And much to my surprise, it all fits. Well, almost all.

The racks fit very well with one exception on the trays. It seems Garmin wanted to make the flight director tray a little different in that the holes from side-to-side are not symmetrical. They’re off by 0.10″ (up-down) on either side. This makes for a peculiar mounting setup, where on the unit you can flip the tray 180 degrees and it still fits, but your mounts now need to be different left-to-right.

A pain.

There’s enough play in my screws that I can fudge it, but it isn’t perfect.

What’s really not perfect is that everything in the center stack sits 1″ too high…

Not sure how I shit that particular bed. I knew it as soon as I saw it–I think there might have been a half scale drawing I pulled a dimension from.

In order to fit the whole beast in the airplane I need to pull the top unit. Bummer.
