Work continues on the tail fairings, where I’m eager to get a good fit. Abandoning the Van’s fairing for one from Fairing’s Etc., I’m hopeful that I’ll wind up with a better transition between these airframe components. Initial fit shows similar gaps to the Van’s fairing, but the unit is much easier to rework.

I’m bouncing back and forth from a fiberglass to a carbon fiber fairing, testing both. I like the carbon: It’s cool, a little stiffer, way cool, and a bit lighter. Oh, and cool.
After reworking the form with heat, doing a little sanding, I’ve got a pretty good looking rear section.

The bottom fairings are a much better look than the aluminum solution provided by Van’s.
Once I was nearly done I realized that the carbon fairing would interfere with the ELT antenna that was destined for installation under the fairing. Looks like we’re back to the fiberglass after all, and back to fitting…
