Baffle Seals

Starting the baffle seals. I’ve found using magnets to hold them in place seems to work well as they are trimmed to size and fitted. I’ll trim these and work with clecos and magnets for a while, as I’m worried about riveting without some further verification that they’ll indeed seal as intended.

Mixture Cable

I finally got my hands on an appropriately sized mixture cable as the stock size in the firewall forward kit was too short–another byproduct of a fuel servo that size just a hair further forward, as well as the fact that I’ve gone with very different geometry for the linkage. (A direct shot instead of […]

Alternate Air

As if the snorkel wasn’t complicated enough, we need to add an alternate air door in case the engine filter gets clogged. The trap door can be open (but not closed) from the cockpit in the case of an emergency air filter/air intake obstruction. The door is filleted onto the snorkel, and will be faired […]

Cowl Blister

The horizontal intake/fuel servo installation puts the mixture arm just a little more forward than the cowl will allow, so a blister, or relief, is needed to create room with the mixture arm is full rich. I wanted to create a blister that was symmetrical and purposeful looking, machined and aggressive. I’ve seen folks use […]

More Snorkel

Fitting of the snorkel continues. It’s an incredible challenge to get the snorkel trimmed correctly, mating with the inlet ramp and baffles. In hindsight, these elements could have been aligned better. The height difference between the lower cowl inlet lip sits too high and sealing the gap here will be a challenge. I’m not sure […]

Snorkel Starts

Starting on the snorkel is a bit daunting. I don’t want to mess this up, yet the fit and engineering here seem like it’s impossible to do “right.” Meaning, the snorkel doesn’t really fit out of the box. You need to modify the starter, many people need to modify the snorkel to fit around the […]
