Several days of scrubbing the ribs had me questioning my commitment to priming the airframe. Yesterday, I completed the scrubbing and mixed up a HUGE batch of primer. About an hour later, viola!

I accidentally primed the leading edge ribs at the same time. This is jumping ahead a bit, but I think it will be ok.
Ryan,
Really enjoying watching your build. I look forward to every youtube video you post and ive seen them all at least 2x each. I just got everything ordered tool wise and pretty much have my shop setup.
My question for you is what is your paint priming setup? The type of gun and the paint you use?
Thank you!
Tyler Blanchett
What great feedback, Tyler! Thank you so much for the kind words!
The gun is known as “the purple one” and can be found at Harbor Freight. Yes, the same cheap tool store that I curse in my videos–there are some good options there. Why the cheapest gun one can buy? Well, to be honest, I wouldn’t know a good one from a bad one, people swear by the resilience of this thing, price is right, and if you mess it up it won’t break the bank to just go grab a new one. Make sure to get the PPS cup system so you’re not cleaning out a paint hopper each time. They’re cheap and make for easier clean up.
The primer itself is the Akzo Nobel two part primer, available at Aircraft Spruce among other places. This stuff is the opposite of cheap. It’ll set you back a bit, but I’ve never once regretted buying it. Sprays easy (key for someone who’s not that great at spraying), dries FAST, and is nearly indestructible once dry. It is a 50:50 mix, with a 30 minute wait while it kicks. Then you can spray for the better part of an hour if needed.
Send updates once you get your build started, and thanks for checking out the site!
