I’m dreading this fiberglass around the canopy and windshield. I’ve heard horror stories. And I know I’m not starting with as perfect of a foundation as some. (My canopy is sitting a little high, and has some “lumps.”)
That said, like most things I dread, I’ve thrown myself right at it. The first several layers of glass are on (don’t buy cheap glass–this stuff is miserable to work with) and it’s all looking a little cleaner than expected.

With several layers cut around the side skirt, and then several additional layers including the overlap of the side skirt, I’m hoping to create an extremely thin looking rear skirt. I’ve caught some builds with real thick FG sections and I’m not a fan of the look.

After I was “done” I removed the skirt to find it had less rigidity than I needed, so it went back on for some additional cloth. I switched to a higher quality cloth as I blamed some of the floppiness to the cheaper cloth.

Part of the plan for the rear skirt was to create a tight fitting doghouse to remove the need for the little plastic plug and string system Van’s provides. I hope I’ve succeeded here. From the outside, the doghouse looks really slick.
